Upgrade: City getting new software for DNA analysis

The city is set for a $69,000 upgrade to its software that is used to see the likelihood of DNA matching a suspect’s or victim’s, after the city council approved it Monday. This change is in response to the 300 DNA reports that somehow did not include that probability, and Police Chief Kim Jacobs had ordered 3,000 cases reviewed. “It’s state-of-the-art software,” said George Speaks, the city’s deputy safety director, the Dispatch reported. “This is exactly the issue we dealt with in the crime lab earlier this year and will help us address that.” Thus far there has been at least one case that could be reviewed.
