Are Uber + Lyft actually hurting cabs? Maybe

Uber and Lyft have finally gotten their licenses, and their black cars and fuzzy pink mustaches are once again prowling the city. Taxi drivers though, are not pleased with the app-based car services. Drivers have said that the new services are slashing their business and have said they have seen between 25 and 50 percent of their business snatched by Uber and Lyft. While studies haven’t yet tracked the effect of the new services that young people have seemed to gravitate toward, there are about 530 (legal) cabs in the city. There are also about 486 Lyft / Uber drivers now, which nearly doubles the options for people here in Columbus. “Everything has nicked away at our business over the years,” Acme Taxi operations manager David Herring said, according to the Dispatch. “There’s nothing like this. This is unfiltered, unlimited. They can put on as many people as they want.”
