After seeing stories in the news about pay-it-forward restaurants in other parts of the country, she wanted to see what she could do to get the ball rolling here. The Columbus Dispatch reports that’s when she approached the Central Ohio Food Truck Association.

The concept is actually pretty simple. Customers visiting participating pay-it-forward food trucks donate an additional $5 on top of their own meal price to cover the cost of a meal for someone less fortunate in the future. Every $5 donation is marked with a chip in the pay-it-forward display. The food trucks will set up a time and location to go to a local charitable organization and deliver food to the needy…one meal for every chip collected. Materials and signage are donated by Kerr and her partner Bethany Dwinnell through their KindQuest effort.

So far, eight local food trucks have signed on to take part in the campaign:

  • Sophie’s Gourmet Pierogi
  • Bob’s Backyard Barbeque
  • Mojo Tago
  • Por’Ketta
  • Philly Buster
  • Alphabetical Soup & Salad
  • A Cut Above
  • Paddy Wagon

Cheri says that more food trucks have inquired about joining up, so expect that list to to grow!  (jj)
