Live…from New York…it’s John Kasich?

trump.thm_NBC’s decision to have Republican presidential frontrunner Donald Trump host a recent episode of Saturday Night Live has come with a price. The price?

12 minutes, 5 seconds

That’s the calculated amount of time that Trump appeared on camera during the 90-minute show. Having the New York billionaire appear on the program obligates NBC to offer equal time to other candidates for the Republican nomination. Each of the others had a one-week period to request equal time and two of them have done so…John Kasich and Lindsey Graham. George Pataki had said that he would also request the time, but it’s not clear if that was done.

This doesn’t necessarily mean that Kasich will make a 12-minute appearance at the Weekend Update desk anytime soon. NBC is required to provide the time to the candidates, but it doesn’t necessarily have to be on Saturday Night Live. So there’s always a chance that Kasich turns up to slow jam the new with Jimmy Fallon for 12 minutes, and that Lindsey Graham appears (as we’ve never seen him before) in an especially jarring guest turn on Law & Order: SVU.  (jj)
