For their list, Money looked at cities with populations of 300,000 or higher with above average expected job growth. In ranking the top cities, they considered the following criteria:

  • affordability of rent, food and other necessities
  • access to grocery stores, pharmacies, medical care, laundromats, etc.
  • number of residents age 20 to 34
  • reputation for fun bars, restaurants, other activities

Right off the top, I would have expected us to do well in this survey, Here’s a look at the ranking:

  1. Austin, Texas
  2. Atlanta, Georgia
  3. Columbus, Ohio
  4. Tucson, Arizona
  5. Seattle, Washington

Of Columbus, Money says:

Between the green and floral Franklin Park Conservatory, creative food venues, unusual art, and good old ball games, young people have plenty of choices for energetic entertainment in the city.
