Commercial Ads Coming to University District

Because of a lack of foresight in the construction and demolition of certain builds in the University district, OSU is looking to mask the ugly facades of exposed brick with gigantic, commercial advertisements according to The Lantern.

The first ad in nearly 40 years will be one for Rogue Fitness, and it will be installed onto the vacant building next to the fancy McDonald’s (1976 N. High St.) pending University Area Review Board approval.

The current zoning codes for the University District have not allowed commercial-style advertisements (the ones you might see downtown for instance) but with a variance in code, the review board was able to push through the decision to install the ads.

So how did these ads go through? Stipulations in their placement—they are to be 5% logo, 95% art, it must be square, and  start from the top-left of the building and stretch to the bottom-right.

These ads will reportedly be subject to 90-day advertisement period, and after each three-month segment, a new variance must be submitted.
