Here’s how to dodge the Comfest road closures (and the tow trucks!)

There are plenty of ways to get to ComFest 2016 without a car, but if you are planning on driving, there are a few things you should know.

First thing’s first: plenty of roads around Goodale Park will be closed.

  • West Goodale Street between North High Street and Dennison Avenue
  • Park Street between Buttles Avenue and West Swan Street.
  • West Poplar Avenue between N. High St. and Park St.
  • Millay Alley between N. High St. and Park St.
  • West Russell Street between N. High St. and Park St. (open for parking garage access)
  • North Wall Street between W. Russell St. and Millay Alley
  • Dennison Avenue between Buttles Ave. and W. Goodale St.
  • Collins Ave. between Dennison Ave. and Hunter Ave.
  • Poplar Avenue between Dennison Ave. and Hunter Ave.
  • Hunter Ave. between W. Goodale St. and Buttles Ave.
  • Highland St. between Buttles Ave. and Collins Ave.

Also, city parking regulations are still in effect. If you park on a street requiring a city permit, or at the nearby Giant Eagle, you could get a ticket, or towed.

Car2Go users are encouraged to leave their vehicles at the dedicated drop-off zone at the southeast corner of Park and Swan streets.

If you’re thinking about biking, you can stow your ride at the bike corral for free, and if you’re thinking about taking the bus, COTA is adding additional busses along High Street just for the event (see embedded article).

Ride-sharing services Uber and Lyft will be operating as well.

So you know, there are four DUI checkpoints scheduled for tonight, so if you’re thinking about partying, don’t be a dingus. Don’t drink and drive.

And as always, Happy ComFest!

6/23/16: ComFest is this weekend! Here’s how to avoid the traffic

Columbus’ biggest “Party with a Purpose” is going down this weekend, which means over 20,000 people will descend upon Goodale Park to take in the best music, food, arts and people watching Columbus has to offer.

If you’re thinking about going, but don’t want to deal with the traffic and limited parking around Goodale Park, here are a few solutions to get you there without the hassle.

You can take the #2 COTA bus down high street or the #7 bus down Neil Ave. to get you close to Goodale Park. Planning a bus route through Google Maps works wonders, and if you want to be sure you arrive on time, you can use the new Transit app to track busses in real time.

In addition to COTA’s normally scheduled routes, extra busses will be running along High Street between Hudson Street and Rich Street.

One-way bus fare is $1.50, and drivers do not carry change.

Biking is another great option, since you can stow your ride for free in the bike corral, operated by Yay Bikes. Just take a number, and they’ll keep it safe for you until you’re ready to head home.
