Go Topless For Women’s Equality

Men get to do it so why can’t we? Go Topless Day falls on Sunday in commemoration of Women’s Equality Day, which was recognized by congress in 1971 as an official celebration day.

The organization Go Topless tries to challenge state and nationwide laws that prohibit women from showing their breasts in public. Aside from preventing women to free themselves from the $40 boob-cages we force upon ourselves, these laws can apply to breastfeeding women, making it difficult for mothers to feed their babies when they’re hungry.

There’s also a much  deeper dialogue embedded into the movement, in which Go Topless tries to challenge the over-sexualization of women’s bodies in comparison to men.

One side says ‘women’s breasts are abhorrently indecent and should be hidden!’ The other side tries to stand up for equal rights and breast feeding mothers. Then there’s that small subsect that says, ‘boobs are awesome, why hide them?’

Whatever your opinion may be, it’s not technically illegal to go topless in Ohio, according to Go Topless. Ohio’s law only specifies about indecency from the waist down. Still, be sure to check with Columbus’ PD first, they might need a reminder that you can’t be arrested for letting the girls breathe a little.
