Forbes: Buckeyes get rich off NFL Draft

It’s no secret that the Ohio State Buckeyes dominated the NFL Draft, with 12 players selected overall, four of whom were called in the top 12.

But according to a recent article published by Forbes, the Buckeyes also dominated in terms of cold hard cash.

Get this–the Buckeyes racked up a whopping $117 million in total contracts, amounting to an average contract value of $9.7 million per player.

That’s the highest average contract value by far, and the total contract value more than doubles second-place Notre Dame’s $51 million in contracts, split among 7 players.

Urban Meyer definitely has bragging rights for securing such huge numbers, which could come in handy when next year’s recruiting season comes.

4/29/16: Five Buckeyes called in first round of NFL Draft

Though draft analysts predicted the Buckeyes would have a big night in the NFL Draft, there were still a few surprises yesterday.

Perhaps the biggest news of the night came for former roommates Joey Bosa and Ezekiel Elliott, who were drafted 3rd and 4th, respectively. Bosa is headed to The San Diego Chargers, while Zeke will become a Dallas Cowboy.

“It’s really funny because we used to joke about this when we were freshmen in the dorm,” Elliott said. “It’s special to see us go back-to-back so high in the draft.”

The next former Buckeye to be drafted was cornerback Eli Apple, who was picked tenth by The New York Giants.

Last night marks the first time the Buckeyes have ever had three players drafted in the top ten.

But the top ten wasn’t the end of the festivities.

Offensive tackle Taylor Decker was picked 16th by The Detroit Lions, and linebacker Darron Lee was picked 20th by The New York Jets.

It was an exciting night for the Buckeyes, and of course, a huge night for the players, who have taken the next step towards turning their passions of football into successful careers.

4/28/16: The Buckeye Draft Boom

With the NFL Draft looming, the Buckeyes could challenge several draft records with this year’s pool of talent.

Ohio State already holds the record for most players taken in the draft with 14 from their 2003-2004 team, but they could widen that margin this year.

The second is held by 2003-2004 Miami team that had six players taken in the first round, and this year’s Buckeyes are certainly flirting with that number.

With Elliot, Bosa, Lee, and Decker being consensus first round picks, it will come down to where Bell and Apple land to determine if we can match the numbers that Miami has set.
