Columbus Christian rock star comes out, goes viral
Trey Pearson fronts the band Everyday Sunday, an alternative rock act that has toured all 50 states, 20 countries, and has hit #1 on national charts.
They’re a Christian band signed to a Christian label in Nashville, but there’s a twist to Trey’s story.
“I’m gay, and one of the only people who knows is my wife.”
Pearson grew up in a Christian household, and had to find a way to reconcile his faith with who he knew he was deep inside.
In a collaboration with (614) Magazine editor Travis Hoewischer, Pearson crafted a letter to come out to his family, his fans, and the world at large.
The story made the cover of this month’s issue of (614), and it’s since gone viral.
News outlets such as The New York Times, Billboard, Huffington Post and many others have drawn attention to Pearson’s struggle, which is sweeping the web.
“Maybe it is your church, your family, or your culture where you live that keeps you living in fear. But it’s not honest. That’s what creates the bubble so many people hate about church: the lack of honesty when it comes to questions about faith. The vast majority of people are tired of that,” Pearson writes.
“Faith can be a beautiful thing. But it has to start with honesty.”
