Ex-model Tara Lambert was stung by Columbus police when she tried to hire a hitman to kill her husband’s ex-wife, and now she’s facing seven years in jail after being found guilty of one count of conspiracy to commit aggravated murder.

The case featured some bizarre twists, including a recording made by Columbus police on which Lambert can be heard saying she wanted her would-be victim put into “one of those lumberjack chopper things,” and later saying she was “kidding” in court.

Lambert was also fined $10,000 and ordered to stay away from the victim’s family.

1/27/16: Defendant in hitman scheme claims she was ‘kidding’

In a stranger-than-fiction twist, the woman accused of attempting to hire a hitman claimed that she was “kidding” when she told an undercover cop to kill Kellie Cooke, the mother of her two stepdaughters.

During her trial on Tuesday, Tara Lambert flatly denied interacting with an undercover cop, exchanging $125 with him, and claimed that she had to look up what “busting a cap in someone” meant, despite recorded evidence to the contrary, according to the Columbus Dispatch.

Lambert faces two counts of conspiracy to commit murder. The second count comes from a comment she made referring to Cooke’s husband, if the would-be hitman encountered him during the job.

“He can go too,” she said.

No, this isn’t The Onion or a bad spy novel; it’s 2016.

Surprise, surprise, a jury found Lambert guilty today.

1/26/16: ‘Fargo’ comes to life in bizarre murder-for-hire trial

When Circleville woman Tara Lambert contacted a supposed hitman to make a down payment on murder, she sought a grisly end for Kellie Cooke, the mother of her two stepdaughters.

“Just put her in a chopper, you know like one of those lumberjack chopper things,” Lambert said of Cooke in a recorded conversation, according to the Columbus Dispatch.

It turns out that the hitman was actually an undercover cop. Sorry Tara, but this isn’t Fargo, this is real life.
