Future for Kasich’s presidential bid unclear amidst calls to drop out

John Kasich’s political opponents and pundits alike are calling for the Ohio Governor to drop out of the presidential race, saying that he’s handing the nomination to Republican frontrunner Donald Trump by staying in the race.

However, Kasich takes a different perspective. He says that if he drops out of the race, he’ll give the nomination to Donald Trump.

So which one is it? Is this really a situation of “damned if you do, damned if you don’t?”

According to the results of the March 22 round of primary elections and recent polls, it looks like Trump will likely get the nomination either way.

Indeed, Kasich won a whopping zero (0) delegates on March 22, and was even beat by Marco Rubio in Arizona, who dropped out of the race the week before the election. That means that Rubio beat Kasich through early voting ballots alone.

And interestingly enough, it was not Kasich or Cruz who benefitted from Rubio’s exiting the race.

Looking at recent polls conducted by RealClear Politics, Trump’s ratings shoot up almost instantly after Rubio drops out, with only modest increases for Cruz and Kasich.

In spite of Kasich’s home-state victory, it seems very unlikely that either he or Cruz will be able to encroach on Trump’s massive delegate lead.

So unless the Republican party goes against the will of the American voters at the National Convention in Cleveland this summer (which could happen, scarily enough), it looks like Trump has this nomination in the bag.
