Ohio House task force is open-minded to medical marijuana
A 15-member medical marijuana legislative task force had its first meeting at the Statehouse Thursday.
Led by Republican State Representative Kirk Schuring, the panel convened largely for organizational purposes, though the hearing room was packed with people eager to hear how legislators will proceed with the issue.
“There has to have been some type of evidence-based medicine that it has been beneficial,” Rep. Stephen Huffman said. “Let’s weigh the evidence out and see what policy would be best for the people of Ohio.”
Though pot has a reputation for increasing White Castle’s stock price and making cartoons unreasonably entertaining, studies have shown that one of the chemicals contained in certain strains of the plant, CBD, has medical potential.
Unlike THC, the chemical in pot that gets you high, CBD has been shown to treat seizures and side-effects of chemotherapy without significant mental effects.
