Trump Addresses His “Jaded” Millennials

614now Staff

Last night Columbus hosted two of America’s biggest political figures, first President Barack Obama speaking at the celebration for the Ohio Democratic Party, and second, Republican candidate Donald Trump for a private event in which he spoke directly to a crowd of millennials from surrounding Ohio universities.

We already talked about what Obama had to say, so let’s dive into Trump — Here’s what he had to say about a variety of topics directly pulled from his speech, and the video is provided below for your viewing and fact-checking pleasure:

About millenials:

At the mention of Hillary, Trump’s crowd at last night’s speech began chanting, “Lock her up! Lock her up!” to which Trump said with a smile:

“So young and so jaded already. But you understand life, I’m impressed!”

About the media:

Trump claimed the media, specifically the “failing” New York Times fabricated the sexual assault allegations against him without any evidence, and said that he was disappointed to see that instead of covering recent WiKiLeaks, (though they actually are writing extensively about them) they are avoiding writing about the topic in order to bolster Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton into the presidential seat. And then he said this:

“These are very, and not all, but a very big, big, percentage of them are very dishonest people,” Trump said as he pointed to the media in the background.

About Hillary Clinton:

He transitioned from blaming the Democratic party for intercity crime and poverty to talking about Clinton’s emails. There can’t be a good Trump rally without talking about Clinton’s emails — which the F.B.I. found to have no willful or intentional mishandling — Clinton’s handling of the emails was deemed exceedingly careless but not criminal. And so he said this:

“Clinton is a criminal who destroyed 33,000 emails after a congressional subpoena was issued for a criminal. She is a criminal.”

Clinton did hand over 30,000 emails to the F.B.I. for investigation, and several thousand more were found that she had not initially handed over, none of which were found to have criminal intent.

About free speech on university campuses:

“I will also make it a priority to protect student’s rights to free speech on campus,” to which the crowd cheered exorbitantly.

The First Amendment of free speech extends to state governments and public universities via the Fourteenth Amendment, protecting the free speech of students across public campuses. It becomes complicated when free speech on campuses becomes hate speech — either racist or demeaning towards one specific group of people, in which case the university involved may choose to protect the targeted group and reprimand the people responsible for hate speech.
