Gahanna-based brewery Kindred Beer is expanding, opening a second tasting room in Clintonville.
The announcement comes as Kindred marks its first birthday in grand style, with a new CEO at the helm, a rebrand, the upcoming release of its sour beers, the launch of a beer for charity, the opening of a state-of-the-art food trailer at the Gahanna tasting room and the addition of an executive chef to its team.
“This team is passionate about making beer people love, and we’re grateful that Columbus has responded to it,” Kindred Beer CEO Kevin Schmudde said. “We’ll keep working to craft a beer—and a brand—that draws people together.”
Kindred plans to open its second tasting room in Clintonville this fall.
“Clintonville has a vibe we love—independent, relaxed and friendly,” Schmudde said. “We look forward to being part of the neighborhood.”
Kindred welcomed Schmudde as CEO in the fall. His background includes work with some of the largest alcohol companies in the world, including Diageo (Johnnie Walker, Smirnoff), Brown-Forman Beverages (Jack Daniels, Southern Comfort, Finlandia), Constellation Brands (Corona, Modelo) and Palm Bay International, where he launched Skinny Girl Cocktails.
Under his leadership, Kindred is rebranding from Kindred Artisan Ales to Kindred Beer and unveiling a new look, including a fresh logo and redesigned bottle labels.
The company purchased a state-of-the-art food trailer and hired an executive chef who is developing a menu for the Gahanna tasting room that will include specialty sausages, upscale sides and dessert. Food service will begin in April.
On March 4, Kindred will celebrate its first birthday by hosting a party at the Gahanna tasting room with live music, samples of the new executive chef’s dishes and more.
In later spring, Kindred will release its highly anticipated sour beers.
In June, it will officially launch Camp Beer. A portion of proceeds from the brew will benefit Flying Horse Farms, a free camp in Mt. Gilead for children with serious illnesses and their families.
