The Smiths from “Panic”

Feeling sorry for yourself? Are the swooning, miserable words of Morrissey just what you need right before Valentine’s Day reminds you how truly alone we all are?

Same for four local musicians cosplaying as The Smiths., who even after their breakup nearly three decades ago, have remained a cornerstone for sad young people.

With one of the happiest days of the year approaching, you can find Joe Peppercorn emulating Morrissey’s croon and Chris Forbes jangling on his rickenbacker a la Johnny Marr. Because who needs chocolate and teddy bears when you can listen to “There is a Light That Never Goes Out”

Tonight at Rumba Cafe for $5 you can bask in the angst with the rest of Columbus during a Smiths cover show.

Valentines Day For the Miserable will feature the songs of The Smiths for the entire night, and there will be no opener with a $5 cover. Headmasters include, Jon Beard (The Randys), Chris Forbes (Winter Makes Sailors), Keith Hanlon (Bloodthirsty Virgins) and Joe Peppercorn (The Whiles, The Beatles Marathon)
