#614Art: Sneak peek at what’s hanging at Brothers Drake

“Times Still Weird” is a collection by Columbus artist Benjamin Edwards inspired by Joaquin Phoenix and beards. The 8-piece display is chilling on the walls at Brothers Drake Meadery now and all through July. Here’s what Edwards had to say about the collection:

“It’s wordplay on the title of the Joaquin Phoenix / Casey Affleck film, “I’m Still Here..” Basically it’s an homage to Phoenix’s depth as an actor, the likes of which have not been seen since Peter Sellers or Andy Kaufman. To this day, it’s easy to ask oneself if this really was a farce or a new turn for Phoenix. His “apology” for his appearance on David Letterman was actually a brilliant explanation for what inspired the film. And for a man that gave him such a hard time about it, I find it interesting that Letterman himself has now basically disappeared, and every now and then shows up with a massive beard when he decides to appear in public.”

Brothers Drake opens at 5pm tonight. Hit up Jazz Wednesday to admire Edwards’ work.

In the meantime, here’s a sneak peek at one of the pieces:
