Columbus Gives $2 Million for Poindexter Village Preservation

One the historic buildings of Poindexter Village, dedicated by President Franklin D. Roosevelt in 1940, was slated to be demolished but has now received a grant to preserve it as a museum and community center, according to the Columbus Dispatch.

Columbus Metropolitan Housing Authority, the city and the Ohio History Connection are now working together after City Council approved a $2 million grant for Poindexter – a piece of promised funding from 2015 that has been released incrementally to both preserve Poindexter and expand affordable housing around it.

The money has helped build 87 affordable and mixed income housing unit plus a 100-unit senior housing facility on Champion Avenue.
