We’ve got some conflicting opinions about our city that need ironed out. A report by WalletHub in Columbus Business First puts Columbus at 88th nationally for starting a new business. Inc.com however, puts us way up at #4.  Are we great for new business? Do we suck? Is Michigan better than us? Please help.

Let’s get the bad news out of the way first. According to WalletHub, there are 87 other places in the country that are better than Columbus for starting a new business.

Oklahoma City, OK leads the list at #1. Columbus stumbled in at an unimpressive #88. We even let a city in Michigan skate past us, unacceptable!

Go home, C-bus, you’re drunk.

The study looked at a slew of criteria in order to reach their verdict. Out of all the categories, Columbus was ranked worse in “business environment” which considers things like startups per capita, the five-year business survival rate, and the variety of industries.

Here is a look at where the best places to start a business are located (dark purple being the best and light blue being the worst).

On the other hand, Inc.com says Columbus is the 4th best city to start a business. They believe we’ve got enough young people and big investments to be the next big biz breakout destination.

“It’s a wonderful time to start a business in Columbus, OH. Home to The Ohio State University, already one of the largest universities is growing with it’s largest applicant class this past year and a record setting year of fundraising,” according to Inc.com.
