Tax-incremented financing for new White Castle HQ gets A-OK

A bunch of thumbs up from Columbus City Council means a tax-incremented financing district is all systems go for a $65 million multi-use development that may include new corporate headquarters for White Castle.

In lieu of property taxes, White Castle would make payments that would pile up in a fund to go towards infrastructure in the area. Cbus City Schools would receive a percentage of those payments equal to the property taxes it would’ve received from the burger franchise.

The new structure would be built on top of the company’s 15 acres at 555 W. Goodale St. and include 150,000 sq-ft of office space and 300 multifamily-housing units.

The city also plans to spend about $2 mil on public infrastructure in the same proximity including a new road. All that will be voted on in the near future.
