Newark man tries stealing toddler, tells her he loves her

A man from Newark tried nabbing a 4-year-old from a car on Wednesday. He was unsuccessful, thankfully, and has been arrested for abduction.

A woman was picking up her two daughters from the babysitter at the 500 block of Seroco Ave. She was putting her 4-year-old daughter in her carseat when Cody Bartimus, 25, ran up to the vehicle and tried to grab the toddler. He was telling her he loved her during the scuffle.

The mother called for help and was able to pull Bartimus out of her vehicle. He ran off on foot but was apprehended by police shortly after.

Once contained, the cops asked Bartimus if he even remembered the incident that just unfolded and he said yes.

Apparently this isn’t super abnormal behavior for the guy as he has prior convictions for importuning and attempting sexual conduct with minors.
