We are in the midst of the 100 deadliest days for teen drivers. From Memorial Day through Labor Day, teen driver crashes climb 15 percent. Would more practice behind the wheel curb that?

That is what House Bill 293 sets out to do. If passed, the permit phase for new drivers would be lengthened from 6 months to a full year. Also, the night driving protections would start at 9pm rather than midnight.

Behind the bill are State Representative Gary Scherer (R) and Michael Sheehy (D).

HB 293 would require more time and effort from parents but the extra monitoring could mean the world to Ohio teens.

This will be considered by legislation in the fall.
