Under a new bill passed in the House on Wednesday, fireworks will become legal in time for July 4, 2020.
Local officials can ban fireworks altogether “if they want to be un-American about it,” The Dispatch reports prime bill sponsor, Rep. Bill Seitz, R-Cincinnati, saying.
Lawmakers have already done away with the form that firework buyers have to sign, promising they’ll take them out of state lines within 48 hours. They figured why waste the trees if people are just going to lie.
This bill is also slated to make fireworks more expensive in the future. A newly imposed 4 percent sales tax would benefit the state fire marshal’s office…so that when fires spike due to increase in popularity, they can afford to fight them.
See, it’s a beautiful, exploding circle.
Ohio will join 44 other states in the legality of celebrating our nation’s freedom with explosives.
