Is Columbus next to change October 9 holiday?

A second Ohio city is considering switching out Columbus Day for Indigenous Peoples Day–will Columbus be the third?

According to 10tv, an Akron City Councilperson has suggested the change to encourage celebration of Native American Culture. The Councilperson says the holiday name change will correct “the wrongs of the genocide that took place,” reports 10tv per The Akron Beacon Journal. They would follow in the footsteps of Oberlin.

Five other states–Hawaii, Alaska, Oregon, South Dakota, and Vermont–have already kicked Columbus Day for something more considerate of Native Americans.

Should Columbus considering changing the October 9 holiday to something different?
