No one can agree on 2016 homicide rate

Too many people were killed in Columbus in 2016 but the jury is still out on exactly how many.

The FBI, the Ohio Department of Public Safety, and the Columbus Police Department all recorded a different number of homicides; 91, 93, 106 respectively.

The Dispatch poked into matters and found several discrepancies when comparing the Ohio Department of Public Safety’s records to the CPD’s, including one woman recorded as a deceased when in fact her husband wanted to kill her but never ended up going through with it.

Accuracy in police databases can prove whether or not that department’s tactics are affective, thus could bode well for more funding.

Inaccurate records, on the other hand, wouldn’t be so favorable.
