A federal judge has found Ohio’s use of sedatives and paralyzing drugs during the lethal injection process unconstitutional.

Three executions have been delayed because of the decision made by Magistrate Judge Michael Merz.

The lawsuit was culminated in a weeklong hearing concerning the three-drug method that Ohio has planned to use for a February 15th execution of Ronald Phillips.

Phillips representation has argued that the method is worse than previous procedures. Phillip’s execution would have been the first since Jan. 2014.
