Update: Both brothers suspected to have shot and killed a teenager have been arrested. James Echols III (22) was found yesterday hiding in a basement of a home on Brookfield Road, reports 10tv.

His brother, David Echols (17), was arrested in connection to the murder in July.


The Columbus Division of Police SWAT team has arrested James Echols III in connection with the murder of 19-year-old Damon Waddell on July 9.

Echols III was arrested on August 30 after he was found to be hiding in a basement of a home on Brookfield Road.

David Echols was arrested in connection to the crime in July.

07/13/2017: Police need your help find two brothers they believe to be responsible for a shooting that killed a 19-year-old and injured another on Sunday. Detectives say James Echols III, 22, and David Echols, 17, walked up to a car on Loretta Avenue Sunday evening and opened fire.

The passenger in the car was 19-year-old Damon Waddell. Waddell was pronounced dead at the scene and the driver, a female, suffered critical injuries but is expected to survive.

Police say the suspects may have known the victims prior to the shooting but the exact motive has not yet been determined.

The Echolos brothers are also persons on interest in previous violent crimes that are still being investigated.

They are considered armed and dangerous.

Detectives say their last known address is Oaklawn Street, and believe they are still in northeast Columbus.

James is described as 6’4″ 179 pounds with black hair and brown eyes. David is described as 6’1″, 155 pounds with black hair and brown eyes.
