Police stumped by 80-year-old man found dead in home

An 80-year-old man was found dead in his home on S Roys Ave. Monday morning. The homicide department said he was shot to death.

Richard Cardwell’s body was found by his girlfriend who had been out for 30 minutes running errands. The door of the home was opened when she returned. The couple had plans to celebrate their 15 anniversary next month. Cardwell’s girlfriend will keep her identity anonymous to avoid being targeted.

Police do not have a suspect or a motive.
