A local teenager whose mother suffers from Parkinson’s Disease and whose father is paralyzed from a car accident several years ago has died from a car wreck.

Alexa Howard, 18, died after she was partially ejected from a vehicle being driven by her 18-year-old friend. The driver failed to yield at a stop sign and collided with the truck around 4pm yesterday on Plain City-Georgesville Road at Lucas Road in Canaan Township in Madison County. The driver was taken to the hospital with serious injuries and the truck driver was not injured.

Howard was not wearing a seatbelt.

Her father, who was a victim of a car accident years ago during which he lost his leg, regularly talked about using seat belts with his daughter.

“When your mom and dad tell you to be careful… or remind you to put on your seat belt, they’re doing it out of love,” he told ABC6.

Howard had just graduated from Hilliard Davidson High School and was her father’s primary caregiver since her mother is in a nursing facility full time.
