New Trailers

The House is a new film by the guys who wrote Neighbors and Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising. It’s got a really strong cast with Will Ferrell, Amy Poehler and the way underrated Jason Mantzoukas. Produced by Ferrell & Adam McKay (Anchorman, Talladega Nights, Step Brothers) it looks to be a solid return to form for Farrell and those that are into his brand of comedy.

Opening this weekend:

The big opening this weekend is The Great Wall — a monster/action flick by Zhang Yimou — director of some China’s most critically acclaimed movies, including HERO, a wuxia drama that ended up on the nomination list for Best Foreign Language Film at the 2003 Academy Awards.

Inexplicably starring Matt Damon, it is about fighting monsters on The Great Wall of China — the film was early on plagued with the controversy of ‘whitewashing’ despite the film being totally fictional, crafted in China by a Chinese director and having one of the largest Chinese casts ever assembled (according to director Yimou.)

It looks pretty much you’d expect, a movie about Matt Damon fighting monsters on China’s Great Wall.

Gore Verbinski’s (Pirates of the Caribbean, Rango, The Ring) new movie, The Cure for Wellness, is a horror movie starring Dane DeHaan who is sent to a mysterious rehabilitation center in the Swiss Alps. Spooky stuff ensues I’m assuming and there will likely be a twist (just guessing here, but that’s pretty much the norm for modern thrillers/horror.) Looks okay, Rotten Tomatoes isn’t treating it kindly though.

Last up is Fist Fight, the new movie by Richie Keen, who has done a bunch of episodes for It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia and like most comedies it is getting trashed by critics — so you can’t really trust going in whether it’s going to be funny or not, because comedy is pretty subjective.

With that said, it has a pretty reliable cast of Charlie Day, Ice Cube & Tracy Morgan.

Newish Movies

LEGO Batman! Sucks for Ben Affleck that the best movie Batman on screen right now happens to be a CGI LEGO toy.

John Wick was great, this is likely great as well — and plus Keanu Reeves is awesome.

Hidden Figures: It’s up for an Oscar, might as well see this one.
