What local teens are sneaking out for these days
Some people around the city have raised concerns about hookah lounges being too lax—that they may be encouraging juvenile to engage in delinquent behavior.
WCBE reports some members of the community say teens are sneaking out of their homes at night to congregate at hookah lounges. Some are also concerned that hookah—a way of smoking flavored tobacco—can be a gateway to marijuana.
Though it’s only proposed at this point, some changes that may come include:
- Age restriction of 21
- Require lounges to close from 11pm- 7am Sunday through Thursday and midnight- 7am on Fridays and Saturdays
- Require lounge operators to have license
- Require lounges to abide by state’s indoor smoking ban
There will be several more hearings before the proposal is finalized and voted on by City Council.
