The Six: Brunch

Brunch

For most people, brunch is just a meal that takes the place of breakfast and lunch, but for me, it’s a hobby. Columbus is an ever growing city, and with that comes new restaurants. When I moved here 5 years ago, I had no idea of all the food options Columbus had to offer, and as I started following many food bloggers, I was intrigued to try everything. The first time I had brunch, something clicked. I loved the options that came with combining the two meals, and, who doesn’t love have a mid-morning cocktail? From there, I wanted to be someone to help people dive head first into the wonderful world of brunching!

 #6  Forno

The first thing that comes to mind when I think of Forno is pizza and my all-time favorite would have to be their Breakfast Pizza (obviously)! I am not joking when I say that I have dreams until I can get my hands on one of those bad boys. This stone fired pizza is topped with eggs, cheese, Brussels sprouts, and pancetta and is easily the best Breakfast Pizza in Columbus! If pizza isn’t your thing, be sure to try out their Chicken and Waffles or the Nutella Stuffed French Toast for a happy belly. Then, wash it down with a Bloody Mary or some bottomless mimosas!

 #5  Rockmill Tavern

Tucked away in the heart of Brewery District, Rockmill Tavern easily won me over. From the quaint charm on the inside, to the amazing dishes they are serving up in the kitchen, I am positive it will make its way to the top of your brunch list. Not only do they have a great selection of beers, but their Bloody Mary’s hit the spot! I decided to give the Chilaquiles a try and all I can say is, WOW! If it has chorizo on it, I’m in, but this dish was a game changer. Their chicken sandwich, with bacon jam, is also not to be overlooked!

 #4  101 Beer Kitchen

If you are looking for one of the best Bloody Mary’s in town, stop what you are doing and get to 101 Beer Kitchen. Their made from scratch mix and pepper infused vodka will rock your world, but that’s not the only thing 101 has going for them. I have never had a bad experience here and their creative brunch entrees will surely have you coming back for more. From the BELT pizza, to the Crab Cake Skillet, and to, my personal favorite, the Southwest Cornbread & Chorizo Gravy. My mouth is watering just thinking about it!

 #3  DK Diner

If there is one thing you should know about me, it is that I am OBSESSED with donuts. Donut Fact: the center of the donut is 100% fat free!

DK Diner is not only one of my favorite places to get a classic diner brunch, but their donuts make my heart skip a beat. Be sure to try my favorite- the Blueberry Cake Donut. Their menu ranges from a plethora of omelets, scrambles, sandwiches, and pancakes. If you want every meal to include a donut, like me, be sure to try their pancakes, which are made with their donut batter! If you are looking for something a little heartier, be sure to check out the Donut Sandy, made with eggs, cheese, and bacon on a glazed DK donut! Need I say more?

 #2  Katalina’s

Putting into words how much I love Katalina’s is hard. This was the first place I ever brunched (ever) and makes my heart oh so happy! Katalina’s is a small restaurant that sits on the corner of Pennsylvania Ave and 3rd Ave, but don’t let their size fool you. They are whipping up some of the best dishes in Columbus and once you try it, you will be counting down the days until you can go back.

They are known for their award-winning Nutella stuffed Pancake Balls, or as I like to call them, little drops of heaven! I’ve easily tried everything on their menu, but some of my other favorites include the Breakfast Tacos, Mazatlan Slow-Roasted Pork & Egg sandwich, and the Breakfast Chick ‘Wich. Be sure to get some Thunder-Kiss coffee to wash everything down to round out your whole experience! Trust me, Katalina’s does not disappoint.
