There are many restaurants in Columbus that offer BBQ dishes on the menu and some of them I’d even vouch for. But that’s not this list. This is dedicated to places that have pretty much only BBQ on the menu. And even then, putting together a Top Six is daunting because each place specializes in some meats over others, sides vary wildly and ambiance – from food trucks to padded booths – runs the gamut. So this is my top six best all-around BBQ joints in the city.
#6 Smoked on High
The meats from Smoked on High will be good and smoked by the time they open next month as a “coming soon” banner has been displayed in the establishment’s threshold for about a year.
The barbecue house located at 755 South High Street– sandwiched between Local Cantina and Aveda Nurtur Salon–is set to open in August. Finally… We’re getting sick of drooling.
Owner Max McGarity got a Kickstarter rolling a little over a year ago to help fund the project. His goal of 10,000 was overshot by 4k. Damn, people really want BBQ in the Brewery District. Smoked on High is McGarity’s first dine-in venture. Prior to this, McGarity operated Buckeye Back Ribs food truck. Though the vessels are different, the food will be just the same.
Their southern-style menu will feature Ohio-sourced briskets, pork spare ribs, and wings, smoked and sauced to perfection.
