Chicago Tribune swoons at Columbus’ “hopping suds scene”

When Chicago Tribune took a trip to Columbus to visit BrewDog’s beer hotel, The DogHouse, they got a whole lot more booze than they bargained for.

Chicago Tribune spent plenty of ink marveling at the “playful,” “industrial-chic,” and overall awesomeness of the Scottish brewery’s overnight concept (special shoutout to Glenn Avenue Soap company who “developed shampoo and other personal care items with a scent that mimics the aroma of BrewDog’s Elvis Juice, a grapefruit-infused IPA”).

But, further down in the article, writer Terri Colby did some serious name-dropping of other players in Columbus’ “hopping suds scene.”

“On a three-day tour of the Columbus beer scene, I barely scratched the surface in the fourth fastest-growing large city in the U.S., a population boom that’s likely helped fuel the flourishing brew scene,” wrote Colby.

He spent some time learning about Rockmill Brewery’s brewing process, making special note of their “fine saisons.”

Colby also visited Land-Grant, Hoof Hearted, Elevator, Sideswipe, Four String, Smokehouse and Wolf’s Ridge which he said are all “worth a stop.”

Craft & Vinyl, a new Grandview craft beer bar, record shop, and recording studio, also made the article where Colby said “real beer aficionados might want to check out.”

The Columbus tourism bureau’s website was also impressive to Colby in helping plan brewery itineraries.

He called attention to Columbus Brew Adventures, too, for their ability to take customers on guided brewery tours.
