Inspiring locals: Single father uses art to heal relationship with son

614now Staff

When one local single father noticed his only son struggling with his parents’ split, he took to his trade to help heal their relationship.

Edwin was just about to enter Kindergarten when his father, Jeff—a Columbus native and tattoo artist—and mother split up.

Edwin missed his mom and cried a lot, leaving Jeff feeling helpless.

Until an idea dawned on him.

Rather than sending his kid to school everyday with a plain, brown paper snack bag, he used his skills to pimp them out.

It began with a single letter “E” in black Sharpie in hopes it would put a smile on Edwin’s face. And it worked.

“And that’s the first day I can remember him going in not crying,” Jeff said in a Facebook video.

The bags became more and more elaborate, giving Jeff more time to bond with his son.

Time went on and Jeff had assumed Edwin was dumping these artful bags along with his snack trash. However, Edwin was hanging on to them, saving them.

Now, Jeff and Edwin want to share them with the world.

“They hope snacks bags will bring kids, parents and individuals together sharing smiles and snacks,” reads a caption on Audience of 1 Snack Bag’s Instagram. “This idea was built on an Audience of 1, but it will bring together an audience of many.”
