Second Save the Crew film drops on Crewsmas Eve

As the fight for the Columbus Crew continues, so does the Save the Crew film documentary trilogy.

The Battle for Columbus is an extension of the first movie, Save the Crew: The fans vs. The System based on the grassroots movement to keep the soccer team in the capital city.

“The new film updates the ongoing story of the fight to prevent the Crew being relocated away from Columbus, features new interviews with legendary Crew players and national soccer insiders, and presents new evidence to counter the suggested motives behind a move, along with deleted scenes from the original release,” wrote the Gateway Film Center in a release.

The Battle for Columbus is directed by Sean Kelly, a transplant from England with 15 years experience in TV. He is a lifelong Liverpool fan but when he wound up in Columbus with his fiancee, he found the Crew. When news broke about Precourt’s inkling to move the team, Kelly produced what was supposed to be a 15 minute Save the Crew promo video but turned into a full-length documentary—The fans vs. The System.

It was published on YouTube but GFC quickly got onboard to host a theater release. The rest is history in the making.

“This second film is a testament to the passion of those fans, who have invested almost 25 years of their lives into the Crew, but also the players, who experienced some of their greatest moments in Columbus,” stated Kelly.

The documentary will premier at Gateway Film Center on Friday, March 9 at 7pm which just so happens to fall on the night before the first Crew home game—”Crewsman Eve.” There will be an after party at Le Méridien.

Tickets are 10 bucks with half of proceeds benefitting Save the Crew and the other half going to Gateway.
