A 17-year-old student with Down syndrome is living out his dream of being a cheerleader at his high school despite some complications with the coach.

Glen Wilson tried out for the West High School cheerleading squad and made the cut but he was never sent the summer camp information.

Upon calling the school 10 times, Wilson’s family finally got some answers from the coach.

“She told me she’s never had any training or dealt with anyone with special needs. My nephew didn’t fit the image she wanted the squad to portray so she removed him from the squad,” Wilson’s uncle, Ray Valentine, told NBC4i.

A school spokesperson told NBC4i that the district had launched an investigation into the mistake and assured Wilson and his family that he had earned a spot on the squad and would remain a part of the team.

The family would like to see the cheerleading coach resign from her position.

In videos posted by Valentine, Wilson can be seen smiling and cheering along side his squad.
