Johansen still a Blue Jacket, expects to play Game 1

UPDATE: With just days before the season begins, Ryan Johansen and the Blue Jackets finally came to a contract agreement. Now the next step is getting the player to Columbus. Currently, Johansen is in Canada and he still has to make it through immigration and a physical before he can begin at the season opener Thursday. “I’ll get to Toronto tonight,” Johansen told the Dispatch. “I’ll wait for immigration, and hopefully I’ll be in Columbus by mid-afternoon Tuesday.” If that all goes according to plan, he would be back in time to travel with the team to Buffalo.

On the other hand, coach Todd Richards has said if he and the club don’t think Johansen is in game shape, he won’t dress.

After weeks of battles between Ryan Johansen and the Columbus Blue Jackets, a three-year contract has been signed.

After the contract war waged all summer and into training camp, Johansen and the Blue Jackets have agreed on a three-year $12 million contract. With that contract, the center will be paid $3 million this season and the next and the third year he will be paid $6 million.
