The 2014 AIA Columbus design awards picked up some of the trends that they have seen in buildings and architecture around the city as they presented the winners. Given honors were the John R. Maloney Family Health and Wellness Center on the South Side which was done by the DesignGroup and Hopkins Hall at OSU which was redone by Braun & Steidl Architects.

The judges noted the trend of “re-skinning” buildings and taking existing structures and upgrading them. The other trend judges noticed was that of community involvement. It’s not just about putting a building up anymore, many of the designers were looking at the benefit to the community and adding pieces to neighborhoods that weren’t thriving, the Dispatch reported.
