Columbus is set to host the 2018 Final Four for women’s college basketball. ESPN made the announcement live Monday night and Columbus beat out the other six cities that were vying for the spot. Dallas, Tampa, Fla., and New Orleans will host a Final Four in other years but the remaining contenders were left with nothing. Columbus was one of those losing cities in 2008, but this year was victorious. The addition of hotels downtown could have aided the city’s bid for the tournament and according to the Dispatch the tournament could possibly churn up somewhere between $18 million and $20 million in economic impact for cities that host.
