New Crew ditching ode to manufacturing logo
Wednesday night, The Crew unveiled its new logo, or as Deadspin put it “Columbus Crew Get Rid Of The Worst Logo In Sports.” The Crew name and its logo were always intended to represent the blue collar workers of Columbus (as voted on by the city), but the new logo dumps the hard hat clad men. The black and gold colors were kept and the team will now be called Columbus Crew Soccer Club or Columbus Crew SC. The “96” in the logo refers to the founding year of the team, and the checkerboard section is a reference to the fan culture surrounding the team.
Of course, Frankie Hejduk was there, and was really excited.
