In 29 seconds and then with few minutes left on the clock, the U.S. Men’s National Team found the back of the net and took down Ghana in its first match of the World Cup. Both goals resonated across Columbus as bars went berserk with frenzied cheering at Fourth Street Bar and Grill, Fado (along with every other Irish pub in the area) and most bars across the city. The sardine packed bars and fans cheering from the comfort of their own couch pushed Columbus into the Top 5 metered markets for watching the World Cup in the states. At No. 5, Columbus trailed only behind Washington, D.C., New York, Hartford-New Haven and Boston.
