After a flurry of band and sponsor cancellations along with social media backlash, fledgling Fashion Meets Music Fest has pulled the plug on its most controversial act. R. Kelly was to perform as a headliner at the Aug. 29 festival opener. It seems Columbusites were not particularly fond of the R&B star’s legal history – particularly his 2002 indictment on child pornography charges. He was eventually found not guilty.
This is the latest blow for the start-up festival. It has seen the withdraw of local radio station sponsor WCBE 90.5FM along with local bands Damn the Witch Siren and Saintseneca ditching the fest.[symple_button url=”http://www.usatoday.com/story/life/music/2014/07/28/columbus-ohio-festival-boots-r-kelly-after-backlash/13296055/” color=”blue” button_target=”_self”]More at USA Today[/symple_button]
