BWC agrees to pay small biz owners back for overcharges

It’s been a seemingly arduous battle for small business owners who have felt gouged by the BWC, but the agency has finally succumbed to paying the owners back for the overcharges over the years. More than $400 million will be doled out to about 250,000 small business. Kasich siding with BWC over small businesses

Governor John Kasich has taken his stance on the Bureau of Workers Compensation paying back overcharges to small businesses, but it’s probably not the one business owners were hoping for when they pleaded with him to become more involved. The courts have ordered the BWC to pay pack the millions of dollars it owed, and Governor Kasich has taken the corner with the bureau. “Well, look, the fact is in the past, I didn’t like what the rates were. We’ve changed those rates, OK? In the process, the question is who should set rates? The bureau has to set rates. It can’t just flip a coin up in the air. There have been improvements made to the system,” the governor told NBC4. While changes have been made, many workers are unhappy with the years of harm the overcharges did to their businesses, and in many times, even sinking their companies.

Small biz commercials pressuring Kasich for action

An ad is scheduled to start running today, attacking the Bureau of Workers Compensation, and accusing the group of gouging small business owners with fees. Ron Foreman, the focal point of the commercial, pleas with Governor Kasich to become more involved with the BWC to help business owners get paid back. Foreman’s fees went from about $10,000 to over $100,000 and he tells his story of bankruptcy on the commercial. The ad is focused on getting Governor Kasich to force the BWC to pay back the $1 million the courts have ordered it to do so, but so far the company has refused according to NBC4.
