A citizens group and put together a petition to put a cap on spending during local campaigns, and it was rejected because of a filing error. According to the Dispatch, City Attorney Richard C. Pfeiffer Jr. told the city clerk to deny the filing because it was given to the city clerk rather than the city auditor. This could be one of the first times that the city has rejected a citizens’ petition on such a technical error. The petition was aiming to put a $500,000 ceiling on mayoral candidates and $100,000 for city council candidates during campaigns. Those who complied would then be given public funding.
