Say goodbye to the paper work and the anxiety that applying for a free or reduced lunch can cause, Columbus. All Columbus City School students will now receive a free lunch in addition to the free breakfast they currently beginning in the fall. This new standard is thanks to a federal program designed specifically for school districts in areas of high poverty concentration. Odds are, if you’re a Columbus City student, you already qualified for the free lunch with 72 percent of students in Columbus that have qualified and 8 percent that have at least qualified for a reduced lunch. Through the federal program, it’s estimated that about $1 million will be saved, according to the Dispatch.
