Brain cancer patient is sworn in as CPD officer

Like many children, Eli Boda had always wanted to be a police officer; he wanted to be able to protect his mother. Monday, Columbus Police Chief Kim Jacobs swore the 13 year old in as a police officer, but unlike most, Boda suffers from brain cancer. Boda had a brain tumor removed in May after having a seizure in school, and his health is declining. But for a day, he got to be the star. He was part of roll call, he watched the police motorcycles go by along with the SWAT team and police helicopters. It was his dream realized, even if it was just for a day. “It’s sweet because he gets to kind of live out his dream to be an officer for a day. It’s also bitter because the ultimate outcome is….yeah,” his mother Desirae Wagner said, according to WTVN.
