Central Ohio not too charitable

It turns out, central Ohio might not be all that giving. In a recent report from Chronicle of Philanthropy, central Ohio is down for its charitable donations and is ranked 39th in the top 50 largest metropolitan areas. That’s not exactly a bright statistic for the area. In 2012 residents within metro Columbus gave about 2.6 percent of their income to charity. Just six years ago that number was a good bit higher. Further more, those who are lower income ended up giving a higher percentage of their salary to charity than those making more. For people making under $25,000, the average person donated 7.19 percent. Compare that to someone who made $100,000 to $200,000, and the average person donated 2.31 percent, according to the report.
