Ebola scare tests Columbus’ ability to handle disease

A mother called a Columbus Public Health nurse around 1:30 a.m. on Sunday with fears for her daughters who had just returned from Sierra Leone and had developed fevers. The nurse immediately told her to call 911 and robed paramedics quickly arrived at her home, confirmed the girls’ fevers and took them to Nationwide Children’s. While both of the girls ended up being diagnosed with the flu, not Ebola, officials were pleased with how the situation was handled. The only other test for health care workers in Columbus was when a woman gave wrong symptoms about her sister in order to get faster care.
