Local blogger featured on Today
A local blogger got the biggest break she could ask for just weeks after beginning her Tumblr page: a slot on Today. Columbus’ Sara Given who recently graduated from Ohio University runs the blog “It’s Like They Know Us,” (view her blog here) which makes fun of stock photo images and commercials that feature perfect parents, their perfect children and their too perfect lives.
Given pokes at how untrue many depictions are of parenting and life in general. In a post that features a woman smiling with her newborn child in a delivery room with a smiling father, the caption reads, “The nurse will come in shortly to check baby’s vitals, and then our Personal Style Concierge will stop by to see if you’d like your hair, makeup, or nails freshened up.” Most of the posts are structured in that way, providing witty commentary on what is probably the most staged a photo could be. “I think we’ve all looked at these pictures at one point or another and thought, ‘Ha! Is that serious?’ It’s cathartic to poke fun when we all know what parenting really looks like,” said Given on Today.
